Camping

We took the kids camping up past Payson before Heber. It was a place called Christopher Creek that we have been to once before. It was beautiful! The creek spils over the road at one point where it is actually paved and makes a nice flat tide pool to walk across and splash in. There are also mini pools off the road to enjoy with small fish and beautiful butterflies all around! We really enjoyed being outdoors and together with just our little family. We visited the Fish Hatchery which is right by the campgrounds and the kids loved seeing the different stages of fish growth, and especially enjoyed feeding the largest fish. The whole experience cost 50 cents for fish food so we did it twice, once Friday, once Saturday. Must watch your kids though, as the wires surrounding the fish pools have live voltage running through them, and they gave Benton quite a jump as he leaned too far over and it caught is chest. It's just to keep the birds away so it wasn't extremely charged, but enough for a scare! We loved cooking on the fire, hot dogs and smores of course. We also enjoyed walks, playing in the dirt (okay just the kids enjoyed this), and huddling together in our four person tent for a while that evening while it rained a bit. Luckily the rain let up and we enjoyed a night under the stars, around the fire. We even had a visitor. A skunk ate some forgotten cheetos out from under our table, Adam scared it away with the girls (Mae sleeping in his arms) and it headed over to where Benton and I were returning from the porta potty. Luckily it just went it's way, we were obviously more scared of it then it was of us. Must be a regular at the campground! That night would have been very peaceful, except for the loud country music and talking from the "host" camp. Not fun. At midnight I'd had enough and ventured over with my lamp and asked if they could turn the music down...they oblidged kindly and I was relieved...but it was short lived as the lessened music only made the talking and laughing more unbearable! I finally drifted off at about two and spent the rest of the night in a half sleep trying to keep Mae asleep. Ahhh...camping with kids. We did enjoy being together though, and had so much fun in the creek. We will have to plan more family outings soon.
