Backyard Campout

We had a backyard campout! We set up the tent on the grass and got a big barrel in which we built a fire. We cooked a dutch oven dinner of chicken and veggies and had pear cobbler (in the oven). We ate outside and sat around the fire. We watched the stars and ran around the backyard. After wearing ourselves out Adam, Benton, Emmie, and Mae slept in the tent all bundled up together while Lyndie and I braved it in the house. The kids thought it was so much fun. This was the best kind of camping trip! Easy to get to, easy to clean up, easy to get home! It was fun to spend that time together, without electronics, and to bond as a family. We only had one mishap, Emmie touched the barrel with her foot and got a burn. She is one tough cookie though and told me so simply what had happened. It even blistered up, but she didn't cry! Adam said they got a little cold, but still had fun in the tent. Lyndie and I were toasty in our bed together in the house and had fun snuggling as well. It is so special to make these memories together that we can keep forever!
